Some of the LATTICE teachers have been meeting once a month to
discuss literature with a global perspective. Taking advantage of
the rich international resources in our group, we make sure that we have representation from the countries or regions that are presented in each book. As a result of this, we’ve learned much more about the cultures and feel more comfortable using the books in our schools because we are more knowledgeable about which aspects of each book are accurate and which are not. We haven’t been looking so much for the “perfect” books as much as we’re wanting to read a wider variety of books and be more prepared to teach them well. The following list includes all the books we’ve read and discussed. There are wonderful websites associated with many of these books but we highly recommend that readers seek out people in their community who can add yet another dimension to the appreciation and understanding of each book.
