At our September session, Heidi asked LATTICE members to compile a list of ways they integrate LATTICE goals in their classroom. Here is what they came up with:
- Share stories about our names. Give kids a chance to share stories about their names.
- Keep LATTICE on their minds when gone form the classroom by discussing upcoming meetings.
- Greet students the day after a LATTICE meeting with stories of what happened at the meeting.
- Look at the world map with students and locate all of the countries of people I talked to at the meeting.
- Use children's literature about peace, tolerance and cultural conflicts-discuss these things. - Share community cultural events with students and parents.
- Hosting International LATTICE members in the classroom.
- Integrate more geography in our classes.
- Broaden our schools world perspective and understanding of our students and staff through these things:
|
1. One World Day (full day for whole school) 2. Diversity Club (High school students with an advisor meets weekly) 3. Global Village (Howell Nature Center) 4. "International Opportunities" Bulletin Board 5. "Broadening Our World Knowledge" Bulletin Board 6. World Maps in Different Languages 7. Peace Pole installation-where students enter the building (all students see them). 8. Student exchange with different countries.
|
- Sharing information about Kenya's government, education system, culture, and gender roles. - Share a photo of your life. - Use movie "Gangs of New York" about culture clash. - Share about what countries members of the class or school are from.
